Topography & Geology
The regional geology of the Zona Minera Cerro de Minitas, immediately east of the El Sol Property, has been mapped by Consejo de Recursos Minerales (re. Durango Monograph 1993, pp. 159-163).
The El Sol geological setting is underlain by Lower Cretaceous limestone of the Cuesta del Cura Formation that is overlain by Upper Cretaceous siltstone. Sedimentary rocks are intruded by Oligocene quart monzonite with metasomatic deposits consisting of argentite, galena and spalerite in quartz-pyrite-calcite and garnet skarn. Veins that occur in country rock, skarn and quartz monzonite have northeast, northwest and north-south orientations.
History & Previous Workings
The high grade silver-lead-zinc system on the property has seen past production. The Avino Mill started operation in 1973 and is still in operation in the Guadalupe Victoria district. The Guadalupe Victoria district has been active since Spanish Colonial times, with the first organized mining by companies occurring at the turn of the 19th century.
Minera Montana acquired the option on the El Sol Property in 2000. Through an agreement with Minera Montana in March 2003, Oremex obtained the right to acquire the El Sol Property and four other properties in the State of Durango and one property in the State of Zacatecas. In September 2007, Oremex acquired Minera Montana and its portfolio of properties in Mexico.
In 2003, a few samples were taken from selected areas on the property and delivered for silver-gold assay and 30 elements ICP-ES. A summary report on the El Sol Property was originally prepared by Peter A. Christopher, P.Eng., in April 2003.
